How to charge for your courses with a membership
A membership is a repeating charge: the student pays every month or every year and, while they pay, they have access. That is different from the course price, which is a one-off payment.
There are two plan types:
- All Access — the student reaches every one of your courses.
- Per Course — the plan grants access to a single course, which you choose.
Create a plan
- Open Courses → Course Memberships.
- Click New Plan.
- Enter the Plan Name.
- Enter the Description.
- Choose the Plan Type.
- Enter the Price.
- Choose the Billing Interval: Monthly or Yearly.
- Enter the Trial Days, or leave 0.
- Click Create Plan.
To change an existing plan, click Edit on its card.
⚠️ A plan with no Stripe account connected is saved, but nobody can subscribe to it: charging needs a payments account. Connect it under Billing → Payments before you announce the plan. Until then the plan appears in the catalog with its button disabled, reading Billing not configured.
How a student subscribes
- The student opens Courses → Memberships.
- They see your active plans, each with its price and period.
- They click Subscribe on the one they want.
An invoice from your practice arrives each period. Access starts once the first one is paid: until then the subscription is incomplete and opens nothing.
⚠️ The charge is an invoice, not a card charge inside the app. In Colombia a Stripe invoice cannot be paid by card, the same as the rest of your recurring invoices.
Paid course versus free course
- A course with no price is taken by clicking Enroll in the catalog.
- A course with a price offers two routes on its card: Subscribe to a plan, which opens several courses, or Buy this course, which takes you to your public site and opens only that one. The purchase enrolls the buyer by itself.
Tip
Start with a single monthly All Access plan. A per-course plan multiplies the upkeep and only makes sense when one course is clearly worth more than the rest.
